Tilefile — the Company.
Tilefile Limited is an Australian startup with a global outlook. The founder, David Bolliger has come from a background of film making and digital media and has a passion for directing creative teams. Our staff consists of more than ten nationalities, we have recently partnered with a major US corporation, and we are also working with colleagues in Korea and Japan.
Tilefile — the ServiceWhen you upload photos, videos and audio to Tilefile, it gets wrapped as "Tiles" and automatically shared with your contact list. Similarly all the content your friends upload is automatically shared with you in your "Social Feed".
Instead of using emails as the vehicle for sharing your media, use Tilefiles. Tilefiles allow you to add descriptions and comments, they can be embedded into web pages, and they are evolving fast. Because they live in the web, they won't clog up your inbox.
As more people start to channel their media through Tilefile, we will add new ways of integrating with your existing social networks and services, and new devices that can upload to Tilefile and browse the service.
Our long term vision is simple: to bring you The Content You Care About™. Over time Tilefile will evolve to become your personal content channel, where the content you care about will be fed to you in a constant stream of Tiles, without you having to do anything. For the content that doesn't interest you, we will work hard to make sure it never gets to you.
To kick things off, "the content you care about" will be simply the content from your friends. However we encourage you to tell us what other Tiles you'd like to start seeing in your feed, and watch how quickly we evolve! This is a community effort. Grow with us from our humble beginnings, and have your say in what type of service we become.
Tilefile — the StandardWith Tiles you don't have to distinguish between photos, videos, audio or messages. Everything becomes simply a "Tile". When you upload a piece of media to TileFile it gets automatically turned into a Tile. This way everyone shares one format for organizing and combining their experiences. Tilefiles are "community neutral". The moment a Tile is created it is ready to be shared or embedded in other communities, blogs and websites. You may also embed folders of Tilefiles so that they appear as a "Grid" of thumbnails, ready for navigation or viewing as a slide show.
Because all content in Tilefile is all wrapped as one simple format - the Tilefile - every piece of content fits together with every other piece of content, so you can combine your stuff and the stuff of other people into slideshows that include PhotoTiles, VideoTiles, and AudioTiles.
By default your Tiles are set to "public", and can be shared on the internet. However if you prefer, you can limit the sharing of certain Tiles so that only your friends can see them, or to your friends plus their friends (but no further). You should always remember however that the web is a giant community which like any community has all types of citizens, good and bad. As a general rule (and not just for Tilefile!), upload content which fits with the spirit of "Share Your World".
Tilefile Web — Drag and DropTilefiles have been designed for the new era of video on the internet, and colorful image sharing. We wanted Tilefiles to feel more like objects than pages, more like Television than text. For this reason we've built a website that is an application capable of delivering a next generation experience, rather than just a bunch of web pages. In Tilefile you will discover than Tiles can be "dragged and dropped" between contexts, and between friends. Whenever you particularly like a Tile you have created, or one that is fed to you, you can easily drag it into one of your own folders. There is a Workspace that lets you conduct powerful operations, such as tagging large mixtures of Tiles all in one go. So as well as enjoying your media, and sharing your media, Tilefile is a powerful tool for maintaining your media.
Because Tilefiles exist in the web, you can access your Tilefile's from anywhere that there is a high speed internet connection. Entire folders can be embedded in your blogs and websites, where they appear as a Grid of thumbnails. When you drag and drop new content into your folders at Tilefile.com, this new content will be visible in the folders that you have embedded elsewhere.
Tilefile — Email Uploads & Tilefile MobileYou can also use email or mms to email media to your Tilefile account where it is automatically turned into Tiles. If someone emails you a photo, simply forward the email to Tilefile and we will create a Tile about of the attached media. Together with our US partner we have also created the first Tilefile Mobile application, which is currently in private alpha. We anticipate making this application available for download very shortly, so stay tuned.
Tilefile — Tiles Gather Layers of Meaning as they GoA Tilefile starts simply as a photo, a video clip, an image, or an audio file - anything you can lean back and experience. However over time, you can add a description and others can add comments and tags, all of which will "travel with" the Tile wherever it goes. In this way each Tilefile is its own "relevance magnet".
When a viewer wants to browse the information associated with the media, a menu morphs the Tile into its various views. The "back" of a Tilefile is for participating in the conversation taking place around that piece of media. This includes the ability for viewers to "tag" the Tile. When you tag someone elses Tile, that Tile may be easily found again via "My Tiles".
Tilefile — the Protection. There are several patents pending on Tilefile. However there will be multiple ways for developers to participate in our evolution. As we hold the tension between community involvement and commercial requirements, our primary goal is collaboration and creativity. Share Your World.
